Industry — printed packaging and tagging

Packaging and tag printing for Leather Goods

Kolkata leather exporters need printed matter that matches the material it hangs from. Fotoset prints hang tags, swatch cards, boxes and inserts for bags, belts, wallets and leather accessories.

Fotoset produces this work from one plant in Kolkata, with photography, design and artwork, colour scanning, offset printing, lamination and silkscreen printing in-house. One vendor covers the printed matter for the whole consignment, from the sewn label inside the product to the mark on the master carton.

Packaging and tagging requirements in this sector

  • Hang tags on kraft or uncoated board, often die-cut to a leather or shield shape
  • Swatch and material cards stating hide, tannage and finish
  • Care and conditioning sheets packed with the product
  • Rigid and folding boxes for gift and retail presentation
  • Dust bag labels and printed tissue where specified
  • Barcode and article stickers for retail units and cartons

How the work is produced

Leather goods tags are usually deliberately plain: uncoated kraft board, one or two colours, blind emboss or foil for the brand mark. That restraint is harder to print than a four-colour tag, because any ink density variation shows on an uncoated surface. Fotoset proofs these on the actual production stock, not on a coated proofing paper.

Swatch cards stating hide and tannage are cut to a leather-shape die and printed on both faces, with the material claim on the front and the care instruction on the reverse.

Rigid boxes for leather presentation are made over a chipboard former with a printed and laminated wrap, foiled where the brand mark requires it.

Regulatory and compliance marks that appear on this printed matter

Fotoset prints the marks the customer supplies and does not alter them. Where a mark arrives as a low-resolution raster image it is queried in writing before plate-making, because a soft or broken standard mark is a compliance problem, not a print preference.

  • Material declaration distinguishing genuine leather from split, bonded and coated finishes
  • Country of origin marking
  • CE marking where the item is classified as protective equipment
  • REACH-related declarations supplied by the customer and printed as given
  • Recycling marks on the packaging

Languages typically required

English is standard, with German, French, Spanish and Italian added for European retail. Indian domestic supply adds Hindi and Bengali.

Multi-language versions are set from the text you supply, proofed separately, and packed and marked by version so the packing line cannot mix them.

Seasonal ordering patterns

  • European buying cycles drive orders ahead of spring and autumn ranges
  • Gifting seasons generate rigid box and presentation packaging runs
  • Trade fair sample sets are ordered at short notice

Stock notes

Kraft board 300 to 350 GSM is common, unlaminated, so the tag has the same matt hand as the leather.
